Broadway Advertising Takes Center Stage

Today the Clio Awards officially announced the shortlist of their first annual “Live Entertainment” category. There was so much amazing work on display from so many amazing agencies. I’m glowing with pride today to see my team shortlisted in 7 categories — such a cool moment for our clients and our agency.

As anyone in the business of “live” will tell you, marketing live entertainment is a high wire act that often feels as though there is no net below you. Imagine this brief…we want you to market something that requires people to get off their couch and into a traffic-filled location, “turn off” their digital devices, and shell out a ton of money. And, oh yeah, there’s a limited marketing budget. Enticing!?!?!?!

It’s been said that “the enemy of art is the absence of limitations.” If that’s true, then the world of live entertainment is one of the best environments to produce great art. And I’m honored that I get to partner with some of the most creative minds in the industry on a daily basis to create amazing work. It was truly an honor to serve as the jury chair with what will go down as the inaugural Clio Awards Live Entertainment jury which included the following rockstars:

• Dawn Baillie, Founder, BLT Communications

• Charles Flateman, Senior Vice President of Marketing, The Shubert Organization

• Andrew Flatt, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Marketing, and Revenue, Disney Theatrical Group

• Kristina Heney, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer, Cirque du Soleil

• Stacey Lieberman-Prince, VP & Executive Creative Director, SpotCo

• Laura Matalon, CMO, Hamilton

• Jamaal Parham, Director of Content & Broadcast Production, AKA NYC

• Erik Piepenburg, Features Editor, Serino Coyne

• Steven Tartick, Executive Creative Director, RPM

My only wish is that we could create more moments throughout the year to come together as an industry, review the best of the best work, and spend more time hanging with the cool creative minds that do the amazing work that makes the live entertainment business rage on.
